  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Leah Stolar -- A Roadmap to Making Change Happen : You Can Change Other People is more like attending a workshop than reading a book. This is a step-by-step, actionable plan, written in an easy, accessible, conversational style. There are so many lessons of human nature throughout the book that can help improve any relationship. I took notes while reading and started implementing even before finishing the book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Ron Friedman -- A remarkably practical guide to effective coaching : Peter Bregman has long been one of my favorite writers and this is -- by far -- his most practical book to date. What makes this work especially compelling are the key phrases and questions you can inject into everyday conversations to connect authentically and shrink resistance. The sample dialogues that run throughout the book are unique and valuable. You won't just be reading about theory. You'll observe the strategies in action and walk away with a deep understanding of how the best coaches inspire change. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Karen Smith -- guide for improving communication to get the results you want : This book was a game changer for me! I love how the authors break down their formula for helping others change their behaviors into four steps that the reader can begin to practice immediately upon learning each one, which I did. As a result, my communication with others has improved and by using the formula outlined in this book, I am more often getting the results I want from others, whether it be colleagues, clients, or my teenage children. Thank you, Peter and Howie, for helping me approach challenging conversations with a more peaceful mindset and ability to see the positive intentions of others. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mark Goulston -- You REALLY Can Change People : was your four simple, but not simplistic steps, that each strongly engage people you're trying to change in just the right way, right at those moments when they might otherwise wiggle free and go back to their old ways. A must read for managers and leaders. P.S. you can also apply the four steps to changing yourself. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2021 )

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sammy -- Bursting with wisdom and heart, and truly transformative. : I was mostly interested in this book to help me improve a personal relationship where I REALLY want the other person to change. And it absolutely did help me with that. What I didn't realize is how much it would transform me. Reading this book, I realized the 'good' of my caring and wanting the other to thrive in life. I also realized I needed to face my own anxiety and anticipatory grief at the possibility of losing them. And it was so hard to process and accept that. But I've begun to feel much more acceptance, and I've loosened my grip on forcing the other person to change. So far, my letting go seems to have allowed their own desire to change to surface. Yes, this makes me happy. And, I know the road forward is still uncertain. But now it doesn't matter what happens, in a way, because I feel I'm finally offering something of greater value than my unsolicited advice: a deeper acceptance, love and respect. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Marie Anne -- a handbook on how we can influence others growth : A good coaching tool as it provides leaders with do's and don'ts intended to promote growth and independence in others. ( Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2021 )
